Waterfront Weddings at The Trafalgar Tavern

The unchanged charm of this Victorian riverside pub has been beckoning Londoners for generations. Its elegant regency windows offer some of the finest riverside views in the city, and the private function space on the upper floor has a classical appeal, with sparkling chandeliers, rich velvet drapes and natural illumination through its floor to ceiling balcony doors.

The River Thames has lapped at the ramparts of the Trafalgar Tavern for 150 years, and still to this day the pub serves as a welcoming refuge to relax and unwind along the scenic Greenwich river path. At the Trafalgar Tavern, the past lives on into the present and in honour of Greenwich’s significant seafaring history, a specially commissioned statue of Nelson stands proudly in its quaint courtyard.

In the spring and summer, this river facing outdoor space bursts into bloom with seasonal pot plants and hanging baskets. The cream hued walls become adorned with a vibrant rainbow of colour, creating a timeless and heartwarming backdrop to your relaxed pub style wedding in Greenwich.

To arrive in style, some couples might also consider hiring a private boat or transporting their guests to the wedding venue via the iconic Thames clipper. Toast with a glass of champagne onboard and watch the sun sparkle over the water as you approach the Trafalgar Tavern for your special day.

The Nelson Room at Trafalgar Tavern

The Nelson Room

The Nelson Room's regency splendour and direct views of the River Thames make it a wonderfully unique space to host your ceremony, reception or after dinner dance. The versatile wooden floors and cream hued walls give the room a sought after neutral base for wedding styling. The decadent chandeliers hang above to accentuate the high ceilings and the theatrical draped curtains can be utilised to make a more intimate function space, or drawn mid-drinks reception to add an element of surprise when guests are called to dinner.

Wedding Photo Opportunities at Trafalgar Tavern

Greenwich is said to be one of the most picturesque boroughs in London, with its wide open green spaces and regal architecture that feels as though time has stopped. Naturally, photo opportunities in and around the Trafalgar Tavern are endless.

Inside the wedding venue, a popular shot is taken as the couple ascends the red carpet staircase. Above, the guests gather around the banisters and shower the newlyweds with confetti. Its a  jubilant frame that captures the excitement of that first moment after marriage.

Then, whilst the guests are enjoying a glass of champagne or two on the riverside facing balcony, the couple can stroll along the water’s edge with their chosen photographer to capture memorable frames with the sparkling Thames as a backdrop. It’s a beautiful location for a sunset shoot as the sun melts over the familiar London landmarks.

If more outdoor photography is desired, then Greenwich Park opens a whole new stream of possibilities. The symmetrical facade Queen’s House museum and venue makes an elegant background, or its shady galleries of Corinthian pillars could present the ideal setting. Also at the top of the hill, by the Royal Observatory and Greenwich meridian line, you can turn back to admire panoramic views of London as a whole. The couple can be photographed in front of the sweeping city skyline from Canary Wharf to the City of London.
